Are adventure or sports activities covered under Patriot America Plus?
Under the Patriot America Plus plan, coverage for adventure or sports activities is not included by default but can be added through an optional Adventure Sports Rider for an extra cost. Many more extreme activities are excluded entirely, even with the rider.
Adventure sports covered by the rider
If you purchase the Adventure Sports Rider, coverage is available for injuries sustained during specific activities, as long as they are for leisure, recreation, or entertainment. The activities include:
- Abseiling
- BMX biking
- Bobsledding
- Bungee jumping
- Canyoning
- Caving
- Hot-air ballooning
- Jungle zip-lining
- Parachuting
- Paragliding
- Parascending
- Rappelling
- Skydiving
- Spelunking
- Whitewater kayaking (less than Class V difficulty)
- Wildlife safaris
- Windsurfing
The maximum amount of coverage for these activities depends on your age:
- Ages 0–49: Up to $50,000 per certificate period
- Ages 50–59: Up to $30,000 per certificate period
- Ages 60–64: Up to $15,000 per certificate period
The rider is only available for those up to age 65.
Activities not covered
Certain sports and activities are always excluded from coverage under the Patriot America Plus plan, even with the Adventure Sports Rider. These include:
- Professional or organized athletics: Participating in organized or sanctioned sports with scheduled practices, games, or competition is not covered.
- High-risk extreme sports: The plan excludes extreme activities like BASE jumping, cliff diving, heli-skiing, martial arts, mountaineering, motor rallying, and any racing.
- Dangerous water activities: Excluded activities include scuba diving beyond certain depths, certain levels of whitewater rafting, and others.
